  • World’s smallest and lightest digital SLR camera by Canon
altCanon is the market leader in camera technologies and with the launch of EOS Rebel SL1 it has once again proved that they are the innovators. EOS Rebel SL1 is touted as world’s first smallest and lightest SLR camera with 18 MP APS-C image sensor and weighs 370 gram only. The camera will go on sale in US and Japan form April 2013 where it will be called as “EOS Rebel SL1” and “EOS Kiss X7" respectively.
 
Increasing competition from other brands like Nikon, Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm in the lower-priced bridge camera category was eating into Canon’s market share and this led Canon to come out with something that will counter the attack. Bridge models are a sort of hybrid where it offers ease of point-and-shoot camera and features of DSLR. EOS Rebel SL1 as it is called in US comes with image sensor that are used in canon mid-range as well as high-end camera, the company states that the performance of this camera is going to be par with any other entry and mid-range SLR camera form Canon. In Japan the retail price is around $833 for body alone and additional for lenses. The size of the camera is compact at 116.8mm X 90.7mm X 69.4mm and weighs 25% less compared to others. The camera comes with four frames per second shooting capabilities and is designed for superior video and still images.
 
Canon will be producing approximately 200 thousand units of EOS Rebel SL1 per month to cater demand for developed market.
